Unglamorous
Friday, October 12, 2007 — 16:18
So, my Taco Widgets partner-in-crime associate, Austin recently wrote a blog post outlining (1) why he doesn’t use WordPress, (2) why he prefers Movable Type, and (3) the proper spelling and usage of his new word, “unglamorous”*.
I use Word Press for this blog.
And I agree with everything Austin said. My experience of Movable Type comes from the Taco Widgets blog. I use Word Press here for two reasons. One: I created this blog before Movable Type went to 4.0. Two: I don’t personally think that Movable Type is so much better than Word Press that I need to take the time and switch over (not to mention lose all my old posts).
* Which surprisingly, is not marked as being spelled incorrectly, but is not in the Mac OS X dictionary either.

I’ve got a new blog design. It looks many, many times better. I would describe it, but it’s probably easier for both of us if you just play around with it. I’ll change a few things in the next few days, but the basic design is there.
On The Theme

If you haven’t noticed the theme on this blog is fairly plain. In reality it’s a very modified WordPress Classic theme, and I mean very modified. I went in thinking “I want to make the theme as plain as I possibly can.” I think I achieved that goal. Despite being plain, the blog has clearly defined whitespace margins, and is easy to read.
If you want a copy of the theme (which I kinda doubt), I’d be happy to give you one. Just post in the comments. On second thought, I have no idea how to do that. That would be helpful to know too.
Here ends yet another unnecessary post.
On The Title

“Monkeys on Typewriters”? WTF?
Ever heard the expression “A million monkeys on a million typewriters will eventually pound out the works of Shakespeare”? Now, statistical calculations on how many millennia that would take aside, this blog’s title and subsequent subtitle are simply raising the point that these monkeys are bound to pound out something else before they get to Shakespeare. These are the kind of things that I think about.
The joke is that this blog was one of the things that came from that big room with millions of monkeys on typewriters.
And now, some keyboard pounding.
